Carriage returns (enter button) mess up character count when Teachers are writing reports

I have Teachers who like to use as much possible of the character allowance when writing reports. They also press the carriage return (enter) button to create paragraphs to make something look visually better. However when a Carriage return is pressed the char count goes up by one and not the un-used character spaces not used in the line. Therefore the Teachers name could drop out of a box but they are still within the allowance. please fix.
