It would be useful if we could run a report with all staff names and the hours they do.

You can create this report in the Report Builder module. Select Report Builder > Reports > Add Report. Select Excel as the format and the type should be Job. You will see available fields included in this type for the employee's full name and contract hours. The data field for contract hours is called 'SalaryInfo.ContractHours'.
