Hi @Bradley Allen, thank you for raising the suggestion to improve the system’s capabilities around general absence management.

The product team conducted discovery sessions with several large Trusts and, recognising that most organisations have unique absence policies and rely heavily on managerial discretion for general leave approvals, we’ve proposed the following enhancements for future updates to the absence module:

    1. (Short-Term) Decision-Support Enhancements:

      • Historical Absence Tab: Introduce an additional tab in the absence request view to show the employee’s historical absence data. This will support more informed decision-making, especially in determining whether a new absence should be unpaid.

      • Reason Visibility: Include a clearer display of the reason for the current request alongside past reasons, allowing for better context when approving or rejecting leave.

    2. (Short-Term) Real-Time Conflict Alerts: Implement an alert or pop-up to notify approvers if multiple team members (e.g., 5 or more employees) from the same department are already approved for leave during the requested period. This ensures better resource planning and departmental coverage.

    3. (Long-Term) Trend Analytics & AI Integration: Incorporate analytics and AI-driven insights to monitor general absence patterns, such as frequency and duration. This will enable the system to identify potential absenteeism trends and proactively flag issues before they escalate. AI models could also provide predictive recommendations or risk scoring for managers.
